Housework Prevents Breast Cancer? From the "now I've seen everything" category comes a recent article about a Cancer Research UK study showing that
household chores were the "only" exercise activity that reduced risk of breast cancer in pre- and post-menopausal women.
Never mind that these studies show no causation only a correlation. These women could have had hundreds of other
factors present in their lives that actually caused them to get breast cancer, but none of those were measured. Are
we ready to move beyond this kind of "guesswork" research as funds become more scarce for breast cancer research?
What's always puzzled me is that, while prostate cancer is also influenced by hormones, we seldom see these kinds of
studies being conducted on risk reduction in men. While it may be a good idea to develop a study showing the effects of doing
housework on reducing the risk of prostate cancer, it would surely prove difficult to find enough men to participate in the
study.
