Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act Gains Support

National Breast Cancer Coalition's  Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act (HR 1830 and S 865) continues to gain support in both the House and Senate.  In the latest news on the Act, Senator Sherrod Brown announces his co-sponsorship of the Senate version of the bill at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Advanced BC Rising in Young Women 1976 - 2009 - Updated

While you may be seeing this in the news, it's probably best to read the research findings published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).  The study involved analysis of SEER data for breast cancer diagnosis in women between 1973 and 2009.  

Some of the articles published in the news media thus far are somewhat confusing and lacking in complete information.

Statewide Electronic Health Records System Moves Forward

Withfederal funding help from the Affordable Care Act, Ohio's statewide electronic medical records exchange is growing.   University Hospitals & Cleveland Clinic will join CliniSync, sharing patient's medical records at facilities across the region.   That means, if you see a Cleveland Clinic physician for one health issue and a UH physician for another, your medical records will be electronically shared between them.

Costs Increasing for High Risk Insurance Pool

The High-Risk Insurance Pool, part of the Affordable Care Act, is raising costs for enrollees.  The popular program, implemented in Ohio and funded by the federal government, provides insurance coverage for those who have been denied health insurance coverage because of pre-existing conditions.   It's become a lifeline for breast cancer survivors who aren't eligible for Medicaid or Medicare and can't get insurance because of their cancer history.
