Attending San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium

Thanks to a scholarship from the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation, I'll be attending the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in December of this year. I've attended three times previously, and can't emphasize enough how important this program is. One of the first breast cancer research symposiums to adopt a program for inclusion of consumer advocates, it provides a vital opportunity for breast cancer survivors to participate in shaping the direction of future research and treatment.

As always, I'll keep everyone posted about the Symposium activities via this blog and Twitter. Stay tuned.

Victory! Breast Cancer Research Funding Passes the House!

Here's the message from NBCC president Fran Visco:

The news is good!  Just a few hours ago the FY 2012 Defense Appropriations bill passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly with the $120 million for the Department of Defense (DOD) Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) intact.  Many thanks to all of the NBCC advocates who worked hard over these last several weeks contacting your Representatives to ensure that this funding remained secure.

National Center to Advance Translational Science

National Breast Cancer Coalition provides an excellent summary of the NIH's new National Center to Advance Translational Science.

This new approach to coordinating basic research into focused development of targets and treatments could advance treatments much more quickly.

While you're visiting NBCC's web site, don't forget to download a free copy of their 2011 Progress Report on the Breast Cancer Deadline 2020.  It's packed with quality information - so much that you never knew about the status of breast cancer research.
