NCI Meeting Challenges of Open Source Data Project
An interesting article about work proceeding to develop open source collaboration for cancer research information. NCI currently has a Cancer Genome Atlas, which is part of their CancerBiomedical Informatics Grid. Both seek to be important open platforms or libraries to share information among cancer researchers, and collaborate on research projects, with the key word being "open". Researchers and cancer activists alike feel the more cancer data that is available to the research community, the quicker they'll be able to organize research and develop cures and vaccines.
Department of Defense has a similar program, based on a programcalled Forge.mil.
The challenge today remains encouraging the cancer research community to utilize these programs and share important research information.
