Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act Gains Support

National Breast Cancer Coalition's  Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act (HR 1830 and S 865) continues to gain support in both the House and Senate.  In the latest news on the Act, Senator Sherrod Brown announces his co-sponsorship of the Senate version of the bill at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Advanced BC Rising in Young Women 1976 - 2009 - Updated

While you may be seeing this in the news, it's probably best to read the research findings published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).  The study involved analysis of SEER data for breast cancer diagnosis in women between 1973 and 2009.  

Some of the articles published in the news media thus far are somewhat confusing and lacking in complete information.

NCI Meeting Challenges of Open Source Data Project

An interesting article about work proceeding to develop open source collaboration for cancer research information.  NCI currently has a Cancer Genome Atlas, which is part of their CancerBiomedical Informatics Grid.  Both seek to be important open platforms or libraries to share information among cancer researchers, and collaborate on research projects, with the key word being "open".  Researchers and cancer activists alike feel the more  cancer data that is available to the research community, the quicker they'll be able to orga

Northern Ohio Legislators Co-Sponsor "Accelerate the End of Breast Cancer Act"

Our most sincere thanks to Rep. Steve La Tourette and Rep. Marcy Kaptur for their support of H.R. 3067, the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act 2011.

H. R. 3067 directs the President to create a special Commission to identify opportunities and ideas within both government and the private sector and recommend projects towards the following goals:

1. the primary prevention of breast cancer and;

2. the causes and prevention of breast cancer metastasis

Commission members will be appointed by the President, the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader and will seek to develop a strategic vision to meet these goals by January 2020.
