NOBCCF Honors Cleveland Area Oncologists
Northern Ohio Breast Cancer Coalition Fund unveiled its first annual Crile Award for excellence in breast cancer care and
patient advocacy at its recent Pink & Silver Gala.
Dr. David Weng, MD, PhD of Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Center and Dr. Paula Silverman, MD of University Hospitals
Ireland Cancer Center, were both presented with the Crile Award, honoring their work to advocate for patients in the research
and clinical settings.
The award is named after Dr. George Crile, Jr., a pioneer in advocating for modified radical mastecomy and later lumpectomy
to improve quality of life for breast cancer patients. His influence ushered in an era of involving patients to participate
in their treatment decisions when diagnosed with breast cancer.
The awards were presented by Dr. Halle Moore, a breast oncologist and granddaughter of Dr. Crile.
