Tomorrow, a group of breast cancer activists from Ohio, including 6 from northern Ohio, will join hundreds of others in Washington DC. 

National Breast Cancer Coalition president Fran Visco appears in The Daily Beast to talk about advocacy, research and why we need a different approach to end breast cancer.  As usual, she's right.

Our most sincere thanks to Rep. Steve La Tourette and Rep. Marcy Kaptur for their support of H.R. 3067, the Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act 2011.

H. R. 3067 directs the President to create a special Commission to identify opportunities and ideas within both government and the private sector and recommend projects towards the following goals:

1. the primary prevention of breast cancer and;

2. the causes and prevention of breast cancer metastasis

Commission members will be appointed by the President, the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader and will seek to develop a strategic vision to meet these goals by January 2020.

If you live in Rep. Kaptur or Rep. LaTourette's district, please give them a call or send an email thanking them for their co-sponsorship of H.R. 3067.

If your representative hasn't signed on as a cosponsor yet, please give them a call today and ask them to do so.

National Breast Cancer Coalition's latest email message advises the deadline for Representatives to sign the "Dear Colleague" letter for renewed 2013 funding of the DoD Breast Cancer Research Program has been extended to Monday, March 19.  So please call your members today!

Rep. Marcia Fudge is the first Ohio member of Congress to sign the "Dear Colleague" letter!  Congratulations, Rep. Fudge and thanks for your support. 

URGENT!!!!  Deadline Friday, March 16!  National Breast Cancer Coalition is urging breast cancer activists to contact their members of Congress to ask them to sign onto the Dear Colleague Letter in support of renewed funding for the DoD Breast Cancer Research Program.

National Breast Cancer Coalition, through it's Breast Cancer Deadline 2020 project, recently developed a plan to end breast cancer. NBCC believes that, by focusing research efforts on the following key areas, we will have the keys to eradicating the disease.

1. Developing a vaccine to prevent breast cancer and,

2. Focusing research on answering the question of what causes breast cancer to metastasize

Following is a "Letter to the Editor" from the National Breast Cancer Coalition that NOBCCF will be sending to newspapers in our area. If you would like information about how to have this letter appear in your local newspaper, please give us a call at 440-717-9912.

Thanks to a scholarship from the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation, I'll be attending the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in December of this year. I've attended three times previously, and can't emphasize enough how important this program is. One of the first breast cancer research symposiums to adopt a program for inclusion of consumer advocates, it provides a vital opportunity for breast cancer survivors to participate in shaping the direction of future research and treatment.

National Breast Cancer Coalition's Annual Advocacy & Training Conference began on Saturday, April 30, 2011 and will continue through Lobby Day on Tuesday, May 3.
